Gay Head Garden Day

Meet at 14 Gay Head Street, Jamaica Plain

Help Gay Head neighbors install gardens and do yard work, and learn what a Green Block is all about! You can also join us just for the potluck lunch at 12:30pm. Rain date: Saturday, April 16.

All politics are local but many problems are global. How do neighborhood-based groups form effective partnerships with larger organizations to bring the global issues home and amplify grassroots voices? Join BostonCAN and representatives from other sustainability organizations as we discuss stories of successful collaboration between community-based organizations and national groups that highlight best practices.

Neighborhood Weatherization Skill-share

The federal government hasn’t cut carbon yet, so let’s take direct action to prove it can be done!

The state’s energy efficiency programs don’t go far enough, so let’s show what savings are possible when air sealing is made a priority.

Join a Codman Square neighborhood weatherization skill-share to take a practical step toward reducing Boston’s carbon footprint and learn skills you can apply to your own home.

Talk with experts on weatherization, insulation and air sealing, and available rebates. Learn how you can create green blocks and work together as a community to live more sustainably. And most importantly, eat FREE PIZZA!

Many prizes have been donated for residents who have made their homes more energy efficient or want to! To be in the running for these prizes you need to register for the event and provide a small amount of energy use data.

A Low Carbon Living Group is one way for us to achieve that goal by working together to measure our carbon footprints, set goals for reducing our energy use, and develop personal action plans to make it happen.

5 –10 minute walk from Jackson Sq. and Centre St.

Tenants can shrink their electric bills! Homeowners can plan for more efficient water heating systems!

Neighbors will talk about the rebates and incentives that they’re getting for insulation and new windows and how it all connects to reducing our carbon footprints and stopping global warming.

This event will kickoff a Low Carbon Living action series, hosted at the same house every Thursday in March.

And if you’ve already done what you can at home to conserve energy and reduce your “carbon footprint,” learn how to teach your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors how to save energy too.

Vigil for Survival

Friday, Dec. 11, 6pm to 7:30pm, downtown Boston
Cardinal Cushing Park (corner of Cambridge and New Chardon Streets, Bowdoin T stop).

350 Boston’s Candlelight Vigil for Survival outside Sen. Kerry’s office will show solidarity with the communities and nations under threat as a result of climate change right now and demonstrate political support for a just and effective international climate treaty and U.S. climate legislation that gets us back to 350ppm as urgently as possible.

Mission Hill Energy Fair

Saturday, October 24, 10am – 2pm, Mission Hill School
67 Alleghany St., near Roxbury Crossing t-station

Ride the Green Wave with ACORN and BostonCAN as we present our next community Energy Fair! The Mission Hill Energy Fair will feature music, food, vendor and organizational displays, workshops on how to save money by conserving energy, and speakers calling for government and corporate action for energy efficiency and global warming. Free, accessible and open to the public.
In recognition of the International Day of Climate Action organized by 350.org, the Fair will be followed by a Stop Asthma – Stop Global Warming Ride by bike and the Orange Line to the Boston Under Water Festival at Christopher Columbus Park near Haymarket Station.

Boston Under Water Festival

A regional tongue-in-cheek creative event with positive attention-getting and imagination-catching activities. The focus will be on the iconic image of sea level rise to draw attention to the threat of global climate change. October 24 is the International Day of Climate Action for citizens to show their support for a strong climate treaty to be agreed at the UN negotiations in Copenhagen in December. To apply pressure for world’s leaders, hundreds of rallies, demonstrations and other events are being planned at some of the Earth’s most iconic places.
